Overview

Races in Blox Fruits are a core progression system that grants passive buffs and active abilities, scaling through four distinct versions. Players begin with one of the core races and can later reroll or unlock special races through separate progression paths. Understanding how each race scales, what prerequisites gate higher versions, and how race passives interact with your chosen fruit or fighting style will determine whether your build excels at grinding, surviving sea events, or competing in PvP.

Standard Races and Starting Assignment

When you create a character, the game randomly assigns one of the standard races. Collected references identify Human, Rabbit, Shark, and Angel as the core starting or reroll races. Spawn odds for the base pool are documented as 62.5% for Human and 12.5% for Rabbit, with the remaining probability distributed across Shark and Angel.

If your starting race does not align with your preferred playstyle, you can reroll. Rerolls are handled by Tort at the Café in the Second Sea or the Mansion in the Third Sea, and cost 3,000 Fragments. Alternatively, the Products Shop and Event Shop occasionally sell Race Re-rolls for 90 Robux. Rerolling only cycles through the four standard races; it will never grant Ghoul, Cyborg, or Draco.

Progression Path: V2, V3, and Race Awakening

Race upgrades progress through V2 and V3 before Race Awakening (V4), and each stage adds or strengthens race-specific effects. V4 is late-game progression tied to Third Sea systems and prerequisite quests, not a beginner upgrade available immediately after a reroll.

**V2 Upgrades** V2 requires reaching Level 850+, completing the Colosseum Quest, and finishing the Alchemist's Flower Quest in the Green Zone. The upgrade costs $500,000. V2 enhances your base passive and applies a new visual effect. For example, Human V2 increases movement speed, doubles flash step range, reduces its cooldown to 10 seconds, and improves dodge regeneration and melee speed. Rabbit V2 further boosts movement speed and reduces dash energy consumption.

**V3 Upgrades** V3 unlocks a dedicated active ability bound to the T key. Requirements include V2, Level 1000+, defeating Don Swan, and paying $2,000,000 to Arowe (located behind a hidden entrance near the Diamond boss). Race-specific quests then apply: - Human: Defeat Diamond, Jeremy, and Orbitus. Unlocks *Last Resort*, which increases damage output as health decreases, lasting 6 seconds on a 30-second cooldown. - Rabbit: Collect 30 chests. Unlocks *Agility*, which quadruples movement speed, extends dash length, and reduces dash cooldown for 6.5 seconds. - Shark: Defeat a naturally spawned CBS. Enhances water-based damage reduction and speed modifiers. - Draco: Requires Level 2000+, a separate Dragon Wizard quest chain, and a $3,000,000 fee.

**V4 (Race Awakening)** V4 is gated behind Third Sea content. Players must defeat the Rip Indra Raid Boss, defeat the Dough King, and complete the Race Awakening puzzle before speaking to the Sealed King. Upon transformation, all races gain *Ancient Powers*, which grants max stats, +10% damage/speed/healing, and unlocks gear-specific skills. Each race has a named trial (e.g., Human completes the Trial of Strength to become the Berserker, Shark completes the Trial of Water to become the Leviathan). Completing trials grants upgradeable abilities like Human's *Limit Break* (rage meter scaling damage), Rabbit's *Whirlwind* (dash-generated tornadoes that trap enemies), and Shark's *Leviathan's Armor* (damage-regenerating water shield).

Matching Races to Playstyles and Roles

Race choice should be matched to role: mobility, defense, sustain, area pressure, and burst have different value in grinding, sea events, and PvP. A race tier list is update-sensitive and build-dependent; a race that supports one fruit or combo can be less useful for another playstyle.

Live balance can change which race is strongest for a particular fruit or PvP meta, so evaluate race passives against your current loadout rather than treating any single race as universally optimal.

  • **Mobility & Kiting:** Rabbit excels at map traversal and evasive positioning. Base speed bonuses stack with V3 Agility and V4 Lightning Cloak, making it highly effective for questing and disengaging from unfavorable trades.
  • **Defense & Sustained Fights:** Shark and Cyborg prioritize damage mitigation. Shark's water damage reduction and Leviathan's Armor provide strong survivability for PvE and boss grinding. Cyborg's flat damage reduction and *Aftershock* (which temporarily disables opponent Instinct) offer consistent defensive utility in extended PvP engagements.
  • **Sustain & Life Steal:** Ghoul's base passive regenerates health when dealing damage, reducing reliance on food or potions during long grind sessions. V4 *Blood Siphon* scales this leech significantly against both NPCs and players.
  • **Burst & Low-HP Scaling:** Human leans into aggressive, high-risk play. V3 Last Resort and V4 Limit Break reward players who can safely operate at reduced health, converting survivability trades into massive damage spikes.
  • **Area Control & Air Combat:** Angel provides healing, energy regeneration, and aerial sustain. V4 *King's Rule* applies multi-layered debuffs (slowness, damage over time, energy drain) to control engagement space.

Unlocking Special Races: Ghoul, Cyborg, and Draco

Ghoul, Cyborg, and Draco are tied to special unlock conditions and cannot be obtained through standard rerolls. Ghoul and Cyborg require dedicated unlock procedures rather than ordinary starting odds, so players should verify prerequisites before spending rerolls on the standard pool.

  • **Ghoul:** Requires 100 Ectoplasm and a Hellfire Torch (drops from the Cursed Captain at a 1–2% rate). Deliver both to the Experimic NPC in the Second Sea Graveyard. The lifesteal passive makes it a frequent top-tier pick for sustained combat, but the farming requirement demands consistent playtime.
  • **Cyborg:** Unlocked by completing a dedicated puzzle chain that typically involves raid bosses and specific gear drops. Switching to Cyborg later costs 2,500 Fragments per use. Its damage reduction and energy manipulation tools make it a reliable defensive anchor.
  • **Draco:** Obtained through the Dragon Wizard quest line, which includes high-level combat requirements and separate material farming. Draco's V4 transformation is widely noted for its exceptional stat scaling and crowd-control utilities, though the unlock path is among the most time-intensive.

Permanent Unlocks vs. Active Selection

Players should separate permanent unlock progress from the currently equipped race so they understand what can be switched and what must be repeated. Rerolling or purchasing a re-roll only changes your active standard race. Once Ghoul, Cyborg, or Draco is unlocked permanently, you can switch to them at any time via their respective NPCs. Ghoul and Draco switches are free after initial unlock, while Cyborg requires a 2,500 Fragment fee per switch. This distinction matters for account planning: securing a special race early preserves reroll currency for testing standard race synergies later, while missing a special race means re-farming materials rather than simply paying fragments.
